The Elizabeth Hospice invites individuals interested in helping adults and children facing the challenges associated with a life-limiting illness and those grieving the death of a loved one to a free volunteer orientation session conducted via Zoom videoconferencing. Hospice volunteers are an important part of the care team at The Elizabeth Hospice and have an opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life. Attendees will learn about a wide variety of virtual and in-person opportunities throughout San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County, including serving as a patient companion, providing caregiver respite, performing aromatherapy, sewing Cuddle Bears, officiating at veteran pinning ceremonies, and much more! Information will be provided on both the application and training process. An email address and a device with a camera interface are needed to participate in the training session or attendees can join by phone. Prospective volunteers can choose from the following dates: • Thursday, March 17 from noon to 1 p.m. • Monday, March 28 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. • Wednesday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. • Tuesday, April 26 from noon to 1 p.m. • Friday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. • Monday, May 16 from noon to 1 p.m. Reserve your spot today! The Greater San Diego Music Coterie, directed by Dr. Angela Yeung, presents The Brilliance of Youth, a concert celebrates the brilliant young composers past and present. The concert features local talent, 14-year-old Bradley Carpiuc. Born in 2007, Bradley started playing the piano when he was almost 6 years old, and started composing not long after. A winner of numerous competitions in piano and composition locally and statewide, Bradley is presently a semi-finalist for the Music International Grand Prix competition in both categories of piano and composition. His current piano teacher is Dr. Anna Savvas and he studies composition with Mr. Justin Weiss. Registration to the performance is strongly encouraged for the limited indoor seating. Audience who prefers open air seating can bring your own chair and enjoy the concert from the courtyard. Admission is free with free-will donation at the performance. Senior Curator Barbara Hanson Forsyth will share the story of Ellamarie and Jackson Woolley, one of San Diego’s preeminent and prolific designing couples who are most remembered for their enameled metalwork but worked in a variety of media. Their collective and individual artistic journeys resulted in an incredible body of work ranging from small-scale decorative items such as plates and pendants to monumental architectural commissions. This talk will explore their artistic practice and significant contributions to the mid-century San Diego design and architecture scene, including the story behind Variations on a Gold Theme. This masterful mural from 1965 is part of Mingei’s permanent collection and is currently installed in our Courtyard.
