Come together with the community to celebrate creativity, inspiration, and joy in Oceanside/North County San Diego. Join in the fun during the 13th season of the First Friday Art Walk Oceanside from 5 to 8 pm in the heart of the Oceanside Cultural Arts District. This free, family-friendly event features over 60 local artists, makers, and creatives showcasing unique, handmade work in Artist Alley and the Civic Center Library Plaza, along with live music throughout the evening. Continuing into its second year, the After Art Party occurs from 8 to 9 pm with a live musical performance on the Civic Center Library Courtyard stage. In conjunction with the Art Walk, the Oceanside Museum of Art will offer free admission from 5 to 8 PM, including a docent-led tour at 6 PM and a cash bar with beer and wine. The First Friday Art Walk Oceanside is supported by the Oceanside Cultural Arts District, via funding by the California Arts Council, which is overseen by the Oceanside Public Library and Cultural Arts Department and takes place on the first Friday of each month from May through September, with a special holiday event each December. On Friday, July 3, Talking San Diego will welcome Senator Adam Schiff for a conversation with Harry Litman, former U.S. Attorney and Deputy Assistant Attorney General and the creator and host of Talking San Diego. Senator Schiff and Litman will discuss the challenges facing our democracy as it marks its 250th year and how to overcome them. Senator Schiff was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2024, after two decades of service in the House of Representatives. In the House, he served as Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and led the House impeachment inquiry and served as the Lead Impeachment Manager during the first Senate impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump. He also served as a member of the January 6th Select Committee.

Following June 8th’s Sorrento Fire, which burned over 90 acres, the Del Mar Heights, Carmel Valley, Del Mar Mesa, Sorrento Valley, and Torrey Hills Fire Safe Councils will host a Fire Safety Workshop on June 27, 2026 from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Del Mar Heights School Multi-Use Room, located at 13555 Boquita Drive. The workshop will feature presentations (4-5:30 p.m.) from fire safety professionals on preventative measures residents can take to reduce wildfire risk during fire season, as well as an open Q&A panel allowing community members to pose questions directly to experts. Fire-safe vendors will hold an expo (5:30-6:30 p.m.) to discuss home hardening solutions and materials, with pizza provided by Del Mar Pizza. Speakers from the Red Cross will discuss home-hardening techniques. Rex Hambly from the San Diego Fire Department will share information about fire preparedness and the Sorrento Fire. The San Diego Police Department will touch on topics such as evacuation planning and procedures, in addition to emergency notification systems. Upcycling Fun! Thursday, August 13, from 6-8:30 p.m. Give new life to your wardrobe in this creative, beginner-friendly 2.5 hour workshop! Led by local-artist and printmaker Kasey Leung, you’ll learn how to design, carve, and hand-print your own original block, then use it to transform a piece of clothing you already own. Bring a garment like a denim jacket, linen pants, cotton shirt, or canvas tote, and learn how to thoughtfully place your print to create a one-of-a-kind wearable piece. Feel free to come with ideas, inspiration, or printed reference images, keeping in mind that your design will need to fit within a 4×6 inch block. The best fabrics for block printing are natural fibers with smooth, tight weaves, such as cotton or linen. It’s best to avoid stretchy, heavily textured, or fuzzy fabrics like knit or wool. No experience needed and all printing materials are provided. Just bring a few cotton or linen-based items, and we can work together to select the best one to print on! This workshop is all about personal expression, experimentation, and embracing the beauty of handmade imperfections. You’ll leave with a refreshed, uniquely yours piece of clothing and your carved block to keep creating at home. Come and explore the gorgeous natural blue of indigo in this hands-on natural dye workshop! Students will learn a range of shibori dye resist processes in this hands-on, creative workshop, including tegumo (spiderweb), ori nui (stitched), and itajime (clamped) shibori methods. We will be using a natural indigo vat to dye a bamboo scarf and better understand the process and symbiotic relationship with indigo dye and this traditional textile surface design. Students will acquire the basic techniques to continue their journey into creating beautiful, unique textiles. This class is appropriate for ages 14+ years old. No prior experience necessary. All ages welcome!
