More than an album, Madre Cumbia brings together the living roots of Colombian cumbia with the artists who have carried, transformed, and preserved its legacy across generations. From the ancestral sounds of the gaitas and drums to the accordion of the sabanas and the electric bass that helped redefine tropical music, this record celebrates the full arc of cumbia's evolution. La Diabla: Born from the San Diego–Tijuana borderlands, La Diabla delivers a gritty, rebellious take on northern cumbia. Blending Colombian, Mexican, and Chicano influences with the raw energy of garage and punk, the group transforms cumbia sonidera and norteña traditions into a powerful, dance-floor-filling sound. REZA is a San Diego brass-and-percussion project bringing cumbia into the streets. Fusing Afro-Indigenous percussion, tropical brass, Colombian rhythms such as cumbia and porro, and the explosive energy of a New Orleans street band, REZA creates a communal, high-energy celebration built for dancing.
