This exhibit walks visitors through the difficulties John D. Spreckels faced as he funded the construction and the aftermath of the railroad in the Mexican cities the trains passed through.   • The City of Encinitas, in partnership with the North Coast Symphony Orchestra, presents the inaugural 2024 Youth Piano Concerto Competition Concert on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at the Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas. The award-winning performers include Frank Luo, Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23 in A, Movement 3; Luna Lee, Beethoven Concerto No 1, Movement 3; and Maxwell Tran, Shostakovich Concerto No. 2, Movement 1. The winners competed for the first-place prize of a $250 contract to perform one movement of a selected concerto with the orchestra on a Steinway D concert grand piano. The orchestra will also perform Beethoven’s Prometheus Overture. Admission: $25 first row, $15 general. From County proclamations to national media coverage, the exhibit has prompted extraordinary connections and conversations. Kevin Ashley, guest curator and local historian, and Vickie Stone, CHA's Curator of Collections, will reflect on the exhibit's impact on the Coronado community and beyond.
