  • The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast is hosted annually by the North San Diego County NAACP, in partnership with the City of Oceanside. This annual event brings together a collaborative of community and spiritual leaders, elected officials, and citizens who collectively believe in the principles advocated by Dr. King. The event will be held on Monday, January 17 at 9 a.m. at El Corazon Senior Center. We understand that some of our guests will be unable to attend .   • The annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) will be celebrated in Old Town on Nov. 2, 2021. This free event will include the traditional candlelight procession starting at Sundown, beginning in front of the Immaculate Conception Church, located at San Diego Avenue and Twiggs Street. The procession will travel down San Diego Avenue to El Campo Santo Cemetery. Many restaurants, businesses, museums, and shops will be creating over 50 traditional and contemporary Día de los Muertos altars (ofrendas). Unique ofrendas will honor historic Old Town figures, as well as more current stories. A public ofrenda will be in El Campo cemetery where visitors are encouraged to add their own mementos, photos, and written tributes to loved ones. View this event on Facebook

  • From San Diego weekend arts events (KPBS feature): Preston Swirnoff's latest multidisciplinary work is called "Stained Glass Enters the Stream," and it's a circular composition, with no clear beginning or end. The apparatus Swirnoff uses to perform the piece involves an intricate analog tape looping between two machines, emitting a dynamic, tuned chord, and it's connected to an organ. Swirnoff has collaborated with artists Spenser Little, known for his intricate and text-based wire sculptures, and Richard Isabella. It's immersive and meditative, and the installation will remain on view through Jan. 16. RSVP with Swish for access to the free performance, to reduce the number of guests indoors.
