In the spirit of Italian Heritage Month, Galbani® Bella Vita Fest celebrates Italian culture with chalk art, Italian music and wine, all in the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy, October 18-19, 2025. More than 40-plus expert chalk artists, depicting Italian themes, will line the streets of Little Italy, with live Italian music, La Cucina Galbani Cooking Stage, Italian merchants and Italian food for purchase. Plus, Italian winemakers will be offering tastings, via Vicolo del Vino. Food and wine tickets can be purchased here. October is Italian Heritage month, and the festival celebrates the tradition of street painting which began in 16th century Italy with traveling artists, many of whom had been brought into the cities to work on the cathedrals. When the work was done, they would often recreate the paintings of “Madonna” on the pavement; they became known as Madonnari. Street painting thrives today in festivals throughout the world. Street painters prefer this temporary performance art form that is created live before the eyes on the asphalt. This year, La Cucina Galbani Cooking Stage expands. Chef Marco, a brand ambassador for Galbani cheese, will hit the stage for several different on-stage cooking classes and demos. He blends artistry and expertise in the culinary realm; hailing from a rich culinary background, his innovative recipes highlight the versatility of Galbani cheeses and easy-to-make Italian-style dishes. With a commitment to excellence, Chef Marco's creations not only tantalize taste buds but also celebrate the heritage and tradition of Galbani cheese. After showcasing at Folk Alliance International in 2024, she secured an 0-1 Visa to cement her presence stateside. She kicked off 2025 showcasing at Celtic Connections and is touring the US presently, before a showcase tour in Australia. She launches her new show "Queer Arrivals" at Liverpool Irish Festival in Oct 2025. She's joined tonight with tourmate and lifemate Jules Stewart, beloved touring and studio drummer known for her stellar work with groups like Billy Nation, Alex Bergan, Please Ask for Paul, Mariela, and more. Joe Summers: Joe Summers is a San Diego songwriter with roots in Folk, Blues, and Soul who mixes these styles to explore the emotions of loss, grief, and growth. Jordy Searcy is an indie-pop singer-songwriter known for heartfelt lyrics, dynamic live performance, and intimate storytelling. The San Diego Arab Film Festival presents the classic Iranian film "The Survivor" directed by Seifollah Dad. The film is set in Haifa and illustrates the experiences of Palestinians under Israeli occupation. It is based on the Ghassan Kanafani novel "Returning to Haifa." Starring Jamal Soliman, Alaa El Din Koksh and Salma Al-Masri, this historical drama tells the story of a Palestinian grandmother who returns to Haifa to find out what happened to her grandson who was separated from his parents when they were forced to leave their home when Israel took control of Haifa. The screening will take place at 7 p.m., October 18, at the Museum of Photographic Arts at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park. A traditional Palestinian dinner (served cafeteria style) will be available for purchase. Options include Musakan (baked chicken with salted onions, olive oil and sumac) and Mujadara (vegetarian dish of lentils and rice with caramelized onions and plain yogurt).
