  • Bring family and friends, blankets and low-back chairs to Stagecoach Community Park for a fun summer night under the stars! Enjoy pre-show activities and a special outdoor screening of "A Minecraft Movie" (rated PG) on the big screen. Movie-themed FunZone (5–7 p.m.): Bounce houses, obstacle races, crafts, games and more.   • Each summer, free movies are screened as part of the "Leo Carrillo Ranch Film Festival" held at the Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. Bring a low back chair, blanket and a flashlight to enjoy an evening of nostalgic entertainment under the stars. See rare historic films from the Golden Age of Hollywood featuring Leo Carrillo and movies that Leo would love while relaxing on a warm summer night at his former ranch. Details on upcoming "Leo Carrillo Ranch Film Festival" summer events will be added to the website by July 1 of each year.
  • It’s fun in the sun at the City of Carlsbad’s Aloha Plunge. Enjoy island-themed pool games and activities, giant inflatables, the splash pad and more. End the night with a special Polynesian dance performance where the audience can learn the hula. Tickets are $15 per person. Kids ages 3 and under are free but still need to be registered. Pick up your wristbands in advance at Alga Norte Aquatic Center during the week before the event, to avoid lines. Food will be available for purchase. For safety reasons, only pool noodles and US Coastguard approved floatation devices are allowed in the pool. Online presale ends at 5 p.m. on the Friday before the event. You will be able to purchase wristbands at the event if the event is not sold out. Save time and avoid lines by picking up event wristbands in advance. Wristbands will be available for pick up starting the week before the event and are only available at Alga Norte Aquatics Center during regular business hours. All sales are final; no refunds. Wristbands that are picked up in advance and that are lost or not brought to the event will not be replaced. Event may modify or cancel due to inclement weather.

Restoring this unique annual event is the collaborative team of The House of Scotland, Storytellers of San Diego, and the Scottish Highland Games. Folkloric stories from the islands and highlands of Scotland highlight the whimsy and pathos of the culture, while enchanting all from ages twelve and up. Told out by members of Storytellers of San Diego, Marilyn McPhie, Aunt Li-Anne, James Nelson-Lucas, Mindy Donner, David Schmidt, Lissette Ryan with harp, and Rachel Amov on fiddle. If your goal is to write personal essays and get paid for them, this is the class for you. We will go through idea generation, how to find publications that are right for your idea, and how to pitch to editors and locate their e-mail addresses. You will finish the class with several ideas for essays, where to pitch them, and with a list of resources to build those bylines! In this low-pressure, three week class, we will transcribe the poems and prose lurking under our scattered minds and which have been waiting to be discovered.   • Join us for a special Summer Festival Concert featuring San Diego pianist and composer Irving Flores. A celebrated Latin jazz artist with more than four decades of experience, Flores is known for his vibrant piano style, inventive arrangements, and dynamic performances that blend jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and Latin musical traditions. Flores has performed and collaborated with many acclaimed musicians, including Poncho Sanchez, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Gilbert Castellanos, Peter Sprague, Horacio “El Negro” Hernández, and others. His work as a composer and arranger has also included projects with the San Diego Symphony, demonstrating his wide-ranging artistry and deep connection to the region’s music community.
