Friday Night Grief Club is a new gathering from The Death Network for people who are grieving and looking for community. This is not a support group, therapy session, or a place to be fixed. It's a space for honest conversation about grief, death, mystery, and the ways our relationships continue to evolve after someone dies. Grief changes us. It changes our relationships too. Many people continue to feel connected to those who have died. Some have vivid dreams. Some sense their loved one's presence. Some continue conversations in their hearts for years. Others are simply trying to make sense of what comes next. Come as you are. Share if you'd like. Listen if you'd rather. All ages, identities, backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences are welcome. Class Description Join us for a fun and engaging story adventure! We’ll read a beloved children’s book together, explore its characters and themes, and bring the story to life through movement, imaginative theater games, and hands-on crafts inspired by what we’ve read. Children will act out scenes, invent characters, play creative storytelling games, and make a special project to take home. This class encourages creativity, listening skills, confidence, collaboration, and imaginative play in a welcoming and playful environment. Perfect for young readers, makers, and performers alike! Ideal for ages 5 to 8. Each session will be limited to 12 participants max. Featured Stories & Crafts Each week features a beloved children’s book paired with a creative, hands-on project inspired by the story. Crafts do not repeat, so children are welcome to sign up for multiple weeks! "The Curious Garden" – Build your own miniature storybook garden inspired by the tale and discover how a little care can help a community bloom. "Extra Yarn" – Learn simple weaving techniques and create your own colorful yarn project inspired by this magical story. "Planting a Rainbow" – Craft a beautiful garden suncatcher filled with colorful flowers and sunshine. "The Rainbow Fish" – Make a shimmering fish painting using celery stampers to create sparkling scales. "Where the Wild Things Are" – Build your own Wild Thing using recycled toilet paper rolls and craft supplies while exploring this classic adventure. Class Description We live among the sacred. We all have rituals, traditions, and daily pleasures that often go unnoticed. Many writers are burned out on trauma work or simply trying to digest the daily headlines. This writing class invites writers to slow down and turn their attention to the everyday beauty that surrounds them. Through brief readings, guided prompts, and quiet reflection, students will explore how ordinary moments can carry meaning, wonder, and reverence. The sacred is open to all of us, and this class welcomes writers of all backgrounds and belief systems. We will focus on short forms such as flash nonfiction, devotionals, odes, poems, and fragments, using concrete detail and careful attention rather than abstraction. By focusing on short works, we can finish several pieces in a short time. Sharing is always optional, and the emphasis is on attention, presence, and discovery rather than performance or productivity. By the end of the course, students will have completed multiple short drafts and will have renewed ways of noticing and honoring the sacred in daily life. Instructor: Rebecca Chamaa frequently celebrates the everyday in her writing and has contributed devotionals to Strength and Grace and spiritual reflections to Guideposts magazine. Thanks to funding provided by the California State Coastal Conservancy, The Hill Street Country Club has spent the last 3 months envisioning a new hotel concept connecting the regional art community to visitors and our local neighbors in North San Diego County. Join us at the Brooks theater to meet Hill Street’s founders, Marge and Dinah, and learn more about our building plans from architect partners Object Projects. Teaching Artist Lissa Corona will be on hand to lead participants in an art activity focused on local perspectives of Oceanside. Supplies will be provided and are yours to keep after the event. We’re excited to share what we’ve learned in our feasibility study and collaborate with you as we design our next steps. Bring family and friends, blankets and low-back chairs to Stagecoach Community Park for a fun summer night under the stars! Enjoy pre-show activities and a special outdoor screening of "A Minecraft Movie" (rated PG) on the big screen. Movie-themed FunZone (5–7 p.m.): Bounce houses, obstacle races, crafts, games and more. Activity cards are available for sale at the event for $8. Food & Drinks (5–7 p.m.): Grab dinner or a treat! Menu includes pizza, nachos, hot dogs, ice cream and popcorn. Each summer, free movies are screened as part of the "Leo Carrillo Ranch Film Festival" held at the Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. Bring a low back chair, blanket and a flashlight to enjoy an evening of nostalgic entertainment under the stars. See rare historic films from the Golden Age of Hollywood featuring Leo Carrillo and movies that Leo would love while relaxing on a warm summer night at his former ranch. It’s fun in the sun at the City of Carlsbad’s Aloha Plunge. Enjoy island-themed pool games and activities, giant inflatables, the splash pad and more. End the night with a special Polynesian dance performance where the audience can learn the hula. Tickets are $15 per person. Kids ages 3 and under are free but still need to be registered. Pick up your wristbands in advance at Alga Norte Aquatic Center during the week before the event, to avoid lines. Food will be available for purchase. For safety reasons, only pool noodles and US Coastguard approved floatation devices are allowed in the pool. Online presale ends at 5 p.m. on the Friday before the event. You will be able to purchase wristbands at the event if the event is not sold out. Save time and avoid lines by picking up event wristbands in advance. Wristbands will be available for pick up starting the week before the event and are only available at Alga Norte Aquatics Center during regular business hours. All sales are final; no refunds. Wristbands that are picked up in advance and that are lost or not brought to the event will not be replaced. Event may modify or cancel due to inclement weather.
