Join us in a calm and creative setting and learn to sew and indigo natural dye your own unique squares! Instructor LeVar Johnson guides students through the basics of learning to sew on a sewing machine to create two to four upcycled and hemmed cloth squares that can be used as cloth napkins, handkerchiefs, neckerchiefs or other decor. How many you make will depend on your pace as you develop your skills. On the second day, learn to apply a variety of patterns using shibori dye resist techniques to your sewn cloths, following up with a dip in the deep blue indigo dye vat. Be sure to bring an apron and wear clothes that can get messy for the second day of class. You can also buy a Craft Collective apron here to pick up the day of class. This class is designed for beginners. No prior experience necessary. However, taking Family & Beginner Sewing 101 | Sewing Machine Basics beforehand is encouraged. Learn to needle felt! Saturday, September 26, from 1-5 p.m. Beginners welcome! Ages 10+years! Create a beautiful wool “painting” using the forgiving technique of 2D needle felting, taught by artist Valerie Hebert. Using a barbed needle and loose wool fiber, you’ll learn how to transfer a drawing onto wool and “color it in” with an array of vibrant fibers. This meditative art process is wonderfully absorbing, and Valerie will guide you through each technique step‑by‑step. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own finished masterpiece. Optional frames will be available for purchase at the end of class if you’d like to display your artwork. No experience necessary. Ages 10+ welcome. Learn to throw ceramics on a wheel! Sundays, Sept 13, 20, 27, Oct 4, 18, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., with last class 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This beginner-friendly 5-week pottery course focused on learning the foundations of wheel throwing while creating functional and personal ceramic pieces. Throughout the 5-week course, students will explore wheel throwing fundamentals including centering, pulling walls, trimming, foot rings, handle attachment, surface decoration, underglazes, and glazing techniques. During the first week, students will be introduced to the pottery wheel and learn the basics of centering and shaping simple forms while getting comfortable working with clay. In the second week, students will continue building confidence on the wheel while creating more intentional functional forms such as mugs, bowls, and small plates. The third week focuses on trimming and refinement techniques, including foot rings, surface cleanup, and handle attachment to help elevate and finish each piece. During the fourth week, students will explore surface design and decoration using underglazes, texture, carving, and decorative details to give their work its own personality and style. After bisque firing (no class week), the final class will focus on glazing and finishing techniques. Students will learn how different glazes interact and complete their finished ceramic pieces. This course is designed for complete beginners as well as students looking to strengthen their skills. Ages 16+ years

Select a date: September 20 or November 8, from 9-11:30 a.m. This 2.5-hour workshop will advance your skills and you will carve a small bowl. Each student will be provided a wooden blank ready to power carve. The instructor will show how to form a bowl with power carving tools, as well as creating a unique and personal design to implement into each project. Material fee: $5 payable to the instructor at the start of the workshop. This is an intermediate Power Carving workshop. Students must have completed either the Intro to Power Carving | Sculptural Art &/or Intro to Power Carving | Carving a Spoon before enrolling in this workshop. This workshop is appropriate for ages 18 and older. Prior experience is mandatory. About the Series: Becoming a Florist is a rotating workshop series built around the wide range of floral designs professional florists create for weddings, events, retail, and everyday work. Each month focuses on a different core floral form—giving participants the opportunity to build real-world design experience across styles, scales, and applications. Throughout the series, you’ll learn professional florist approaches to mechanics, structure, flower care, and design decision-making, along with practical considerations like handling, transport, and longevity.
