The Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association’s annual Junior Adaptive Sports Camp is almost here! We are expecting 60 campers between the ages of 4 and 18 with physical challenges, such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and spinal cord injuries. This unique 5-day camp will take place July 24-28, 2023 at Crown Point Park and Miramar College right here in San Diego. At camp, the athletes work with committed volunteers and instructors who share a passion for adaptive sports, while learning the fundamentals of approximately 15 different activities such as wheelchair basketball, tennis, archery, swimming, handcycling, water tubing, rugby, and more. Athletes develop important skills to help them stay active and healthy, gain positive self-esteem, leadership, independence and establish a desire for lifelong activity – because everyone deserves a chance to play! Irish tenor Paul Byrom, formerly a lead singer with famed singing group Celtic Thunder (and frequent guest on PBS stations around the country) will be making his debut in Oceanside on July 11. He has recently enjoyed a successful career in recording, on stage, and in concert. The tour, titled "Songs & Stories", features traditional Irish tunes, popular favorites and songs from Broadway. His delightful Irish wit shines through as he tells stories about life, love and Irish culture. This is a limited entry, all-VIP concert in a private home - the address to be given to ticketholders. PAWmicon invites pets and their people to celebrate the feats of superhero adopters at this annual Pop Culture-themed Dog Cosplay Spectacle. Returning for the 11th year, this free, family friendly event features a wide variety of activities including a cosplay contest, animal art vendors, craft beer, music, games and activities for the kids, trivia, opportunity drawings, food trucks, and more! The cosplay contest features three categories for pets and their owners: Superheroes & Super Villains, Pop Culture Pets, and Dynamic Duos, Trios, and More! Admission into PAWmicon is FREE but must be reserved in advance. PAWSplay Contest entries are $20 per pet. Trivia Contest entry is $40 per team (up to a team of 4).
