  • Armed with a 16mm camera and a grant to make a documentary about the lingering aftermath of William Tecumseh Sherman’s 1864 march to the sea, Ross McElwee gets sidetracked. After his girlfriend breaks up with him, Ross shifts his attention from the historical to the personal, to the battlefield of modern love, and embarks on a sociological chronicle that documents the courting rites and rituals of the New South. A generous and humanistic portrait of several remarkable women that Ross meets along the way, SHERMAN’S MARCH sketches its characters with novelistic sensitivity: Pat, an aspiring actress with a yen for Burt Reynolds; Claudia, a roller-skating interior designer; Jackie, the activist whose anti-nuclear advocacy dovetails with Ross’s deepest fears; and above all, Charleen Swansea, Ross’s mentor and a one-woman Greek chorus of unsolicited romantic counsel. A landmark of first-person filmmaking that presaged everything from Michael Moore to reality TV, SHERMAN’S MARCH is now available in a new 4K restoration. SHERMAN'S MARCH screens in honor of the release of McElwee's latest film, REMAKE, which also screens at Digital Gym Cinema beginning Friday, September 4: https://digitalgym.org/movies/remake/ Digital Gym Cinema on Facebook / Instagram

  • Please join us for a special introduction & post-screening Q+A with Los Angeles-based writer/director/star of "Situations," Greg Vrotsos, on Thursday, September 3 at 6:15 p.m., moderated by DGC Exhibitions & Marketing Coordinator Laurie Piña. This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring filmmakers and independent film supporters to gain firsthand insight into producing a feature film without big studio funding and taking a non-traditional, "punk rock" approach to film releasing and exhibition. Harboring the spirit of indie maverick John Cassavetes and shot fully on location in LA, "Situations" stars Greg Vrotsos ("Orange is the New Black," "Twin Peaks: The Return") as an LA based photographer drifting through Silverlake’s creative chaos three months after a painful breakup—dodging well-meaning friends, career pressures, and fleeting flings—until an unexpected connection forces him to confront what he truly wants from love, art, and himself. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER Greg Vrotsos is a Boston-born, bi-coastal filmmaker known for his dynamic storytelling and keen eye for character-driven narratives. With over a decade of experience in this film and television industry, Greg has built a reputation for collaborating with some of the most respected talents in Hollywood. His work spans acclaimed television series such as Netflix’s "Orange Is The New Black," HBO’s "Vinyl," and David Lynch’s "Twin Peaks: The Return," as well as major studio films including "Empire State" and "The Boston Strangler." Greg’s creative vision extends to behind the camera, where his short films have been recognized on the festival circuit for their authenticity and emotional depth. With "Situations," Greg makes his feature debut as a writer and director, bringing a fresh, insightful perspective to stories of love, ambition, and self-discovery in Los Angeles. • Dear Interested Community Members, We want to hear from you! The County of San Diego (County) Planning & Development Services (PDS) invites you to attend a virtual Open House for the Tiered Winery Rural Residential (RR) Expansion project. Staff will present proposed zoning ordinance updates, review key public feedback received during the draft review period, and share how that feedback shaped the final draft. Draft zoning ordinance amendments were available for public review from July 7 to August 6, 2026. These amendments addressed the Board of Supervisors (Board) 2024 direction to explore allowing smaller winery tiers in RR zones. The draft ordinance amendments also incorporate revisions in response to 2026 Board direction to review the 30% criteria for designated tasting and retail sales area to provide greater flexibility for outdoor spaces and to reassess how outdoor amplified live music is assessed for compliance with the County’s Noise Ordinance. Other proposed changes include, but are not limited to; • Proposed standards to allow a by-right pathway for Boutique Wineries in RR zones. • Provisions allowing a temporary waiver of the grape sourcing requirements in the event of a natural disaster causing crop failure. • Allowing vehicles with an occupancy greater than 15 people to serve a Boutique Winery during special, closed-to-the-public activities to ensure occupancy is not exceeded. • Allowances for informal seating in outdoor areas. This project includes updates to the Tiered Winery Zoning Ordinance (Section 6910), new and revised operating standards, and a review of potential environmental effects under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Open House Topic: Proposed Final Draft Zoning Ordinance Changes Staff will present the final draft zoning ordinance changes planned for Planning Commission and Board consideration later this year. The Open House will highlight key themes in public feedback, how public and interdepartmental feedback shaped the final draft, and staff will gather any final comments.
