The inaugural Eco-Jewish Play Fest at Coastal Roots Farm will bring together 7 nationally recognized local playwrights, 7 great local directors, and 21 professional actors to create, in just 24 hours, original 10 minute plays inspired by Eco-Jewish dreams, questions, and inspirations. Based on the 1910 horror novel by Gaston Leroux, Broadway's "The Phantom of the Opera" is a thrilling and romantic account of the legendary Phantom, a musical genius who dwells deep beneath a majestic opera house in Paris. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s score soars with such famous tunes as “Think of Me,” “All I Ask of You,” “The Music of the Night,” and the title song, “The Phantom of the Opera.” With a record breaking Broadway run, Phantom has become a cultural tour de force, and one of the most successful musicals of all time. Artists Dwight Hwang and Oriana Poindexter are proud to present Impressions in Light & Shadow, an exhibition featuring new gyotaku and photo-based prints at Perspectives Space in Encinitas, California. This month-long exhibition highlights the unique beauty and majesty of the giant kelp forest ecosystems off Southern California’s coastline. The reception is free and open to the public with an Eventbrite RSVP. Light appetizers provided by Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub and wine by Zio Baffa. About the Artists: Dwight Hwang creates classical Japanese gyotaku art and European nature printing. Whether his subject is a fish, plants, birds, or even a person, he pushes not only the art but himself to bring awe, memories, and quiet contemplation to viewers worldwide. Partnered with institutions like NOAA and Patagonia, his work has been exhibited in museums such as the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, displayed in hospitality such as the Four Seasons Resorts, and showcased in publications including Forbes. Oriana Poindexter is a photographer and marine scientist focused on the intersection of art, science, and marine natural resources. After working for nearly a decade in fisheries science with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and NOAA Fisheries, she now focuses on the use of photography to help viewers understand the ever-changing natural world. Her work has been featured by the Getty Museum and The Wall Street Journal, and she has created interpretive visual exhibits for the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Birch Aquarium.

From the theater: A Dance of Discovery. A Brain in Motion. A Life on the Spectrum. Dancer and choreographer Jenn Freeman was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in 2021 at age 33, and since then she has navigated an endless sea of epiphanies. Inspired by a deep curiosity to examine her childhood memories through this new lens, Jenn found a way to illuminate her story using the language she knows best: Dance. "Is It Thursday Yet?" invites you into the unique complexities of Jenn’s neurodivergent brain through a stunning tapestry of dance, live music and home video footage. Original live music from renowned musician Holland Andrews is woven with audio narrations from Jenn’s therapist, vocals, clarinet, drums and electronic music. Scenic design by Tony Award-winner Rachel Hauck is inspired by Jenn’s sensory sensitivities to texture, color, light and sound. This inventive, engrossing new work is co-created and directed by the electrifying choreographer Sonya Tayeh (Tony Award-winner for Moulin Rouge). Truth in Comedy, or TiC for short, is a storytelling, stand-up comedy, and art show where humanity is the muse. It's a unique experience that's raw and beautiful. Three individuals will tell a very personal story from their life, aka their truth, where they will be very open, honest, and vulnerable. Afterwards, a comedian will perform a set inspired by the story. At the end of the night, an artist will present a triptych they created inspired by the stories as well.
