No photography experience or special equipment is required—just bring your mobile phone and your curiosity. Riley Arthur is a Chula Vista-based photographer and journalist, Fulbright Scholar, and National Geographic Explorer. She teaches photography with an emphasis on accessible, mobile-first techniques and is the author of "Phone Photography for Everybody: iPhone Photojournalism Technique." This workshop is part of the Latino Conservation Week “Journey Through the Wetlands” celebration and Tijuana River Action Month kickoff.

Acompaña a la artista botánica Maria Lopez Vazquez en este taller práctico bilingüe, donde exploraremos cómo las colecciones de plantas nos ayudan a identificar especies y documentar el mundo natural. Trabajando con plantas nativas, aprenderás a prensar un espécimen, prepararlo y acomodarlo para su montaje, identificar sus características principales y conservar información importante sobre tu hallazgo. Working with native plants, you’ll learn how to press a plant specimen, prepare and arrange it for mounting, identify key features, and preserve important information about your find. We’ll also explore the history of herbaria and why these collections continue to be valuable tools for science and conservation. Native plant specimens for this workshop will be collected with prior permission specifically for this activity. Participants will not collect any additional plants during the workshop. This workshop is one of several activities taking place as part of the Latino Conservation Week “Journey Through the Wetlands” celebration and the Tijuana River Action Month kickoff. Following its San Diego Comic-Con debut, Clash for the Stache is staying open through Sept. 7, giving locals and visitors more time to step inside a real-life Clash of Clans village at Seaport Village.
