Beginning Saturday, August 22, and continuing through Saturday, August 29, the North City district in San Marcos is inviting families, friends and LEGO fans of all ages to help build a community LEGO city from the ground up. Taking place daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the grassy area in front of Wynston’s Ice Cream, “Build a City with Us” will transform thousands of colorful LEGO bricks into an ever-evolving city shaped by the neighborhood. Two LEGO Master Builders will kick things off with the first builds before turning the project over to visitors who can add their own creations and watch the city take shape. For years, adults in North County have driven to Kearny Mesa for evening Italian classes. This fall the Italian school of San Diego is bringing them north: two in-person classes for adults in Encinitas, Friday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The beginner and intermediate sections run at the same time in two adjacent classrooms at San Dieguito United Methodist Church, a short drive from the I-5. All instructors are native Italian speakers. The session runs 13 classes, September 18 to December 18, 2026, with no class on November 27. Tuition is $468 in full, or four monthly payments of $128.70. Beginner is for adults with little or no Italian. Intermediate is for students with a foundation who want to speak with more confidence. The Italian school of San Diego is opening a second in-person location in Encinitas for the 2026-2027 academic year. Children meet Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m. at San Dieguito United Methodist Church, from September 14, 2026 through May 24, 2027, 29 classes across the year. Two small classes run at the same time in adjacent classrooms, each with its own native Italian teacher, so siblings of different ages can attend together. Transitional kindergarten through 2nd grade learn through songs, movement, picture books, and games. Third through 5th grade work on conversation while beginning to read and write in Italian, alongside Italian geography, food, and holidays. Classes are kept small, 5 to 10 students. "Advanced Persistent Teenagers" by Deepak Kumar (House of India at the Old Globe) follows 2 teenage hackers, Axyz and Lapras, who only know each other through online voice chat. When their hacker collective, dark w0rld, abruptly disbands, the boys find themselves adrift. Searching for purpose—and still craving the rush—the two launch a plan that may just change the hacker world forever. This "workshop production" is a novel concept rarely seen in the landscape of professional theatre. The 2-person play will be fully staged and produced - but because this workshop process is an opportunity for playwright Deepak Kumar to revise and explore, the actors will have new rewrites for every performance.
