  • The Zzymzzy Quartet makes their long awaited return to Golden Island Dim Sum & Asian Cuisine for the 157th Session of Dim Sum & Jazz!- Seating Begins at 6 P.M. Music from 6:30-8:30 P.M.- Call (858) 578-8800 for reservations!About The Zzymzzy QuartetRhymes with "Whimsy"The guys from the Zzymzzy Quartet have simple ambitions: they just want to play it like it was when it was unamplified, melodic, swinging, dreamy, full of sly surprise. From the Prohibition through the Second Big War, the glory days of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington are being recaptured humbly and with humor in San Diego by four musicians who know it don’t mean a thing without that swing:- Beston Barnett - Guitar, Vocals- Pete Miesner - Guitar, Lead Vocals- Matt Gill - Clarinet- Paul Hormick - Upright BassThe Zzymzzy Quartet takes its name from a hypothetical “last word” in the dictionary: thus, their tagline, “The Last Word in Gypsy Swing.” The “Gypsy” sound is heard in much of the guitar work, heavily influenced by the stylings of French Gypsy jazz legend Django Reinhardt, but the group also pays tribute to the Swing Era with classic standards and idiomatic originals. Since the Zzymzzy Quartet came together in 2004, they’ve played dances, parties, weddings, festivals, art openings, and events throughout Southern California to unanimous enthusiasm, carving out a name for themselves as a tasty dance band and a classy addition to every wedding. In 2017, ART HURTS Records released their second CD, Petite Fleur which, on top of inspired playing and elegant arrangements, features cameos from a variety of beloved San Diego musicians.Stay Connected on Social Media! • Reception: Saturday, Feb. 10, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.Artist Walk-Through: Friday, Feb. 16, 3 p.m.Explore Bonita and Sweetwater Valley neighborhoods through the eyes of local artist Susan J. Osborn. Susan is a well-known artist in San Diego County known for her colorful interpretations of life. Visitors can walk along the many trails with Susan as she explores Morrison Pond, San Miguel and the topography around the valley.About “Neighborhood Impressions and Dreams”Artist StatementI have lived in Bonita for over forty years. Most of the work from 2007 to 2019 was assembled sculpture. Then came the COVID lockdown and I couldn’t get my needed art supplies from estate sales and thrift stores. At that time, I encountered the patterned paintings of Marian Estes and the architectural landscapes of Francis McCormack, finding their work inspiring. I longed to get back to painting and began working old canvases and boards I found around my house.Using photos I had taken during my daily walks, my new paintings came from impressions of those photos and the images in my mind. The work used fabric because of my love for patterns and I also added collaged magazine photos, painted paper and acrylic.Moving forward, most artwork corresponds to an area near my house, yet the latest works have a bit of fantasy such as you see in “Giraffes or “WIndy Day.”Bonita Museum and Cultural Center on Facebook / InstagramSusan J Osborn Art on Facebook
