  • Justice and desire collide in Shakespeare’s timeless tale of power and hypocrisy. When Vienna’s Duke suddenly disappears, his morally rigid deputy Angelo takes control—determined to rid the city of vice. But when he condemns a young man to death and then propositions the man’s sister, his actions reveal the cracks in his facade of authority. Filled with rich characters, surprising twists, and a comic group of seedy grifters on the make, "Measure for Measure" explores who holds power, who gets punished, and what it truly means to be virtuous. • Space 4 Art presents "The Color of Silence", a group exhibition curated by Francisco Eme. The exhibition opens with a public reception and live performances on Saturday, June 6 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Art Produce Gallery and will remain on view through July 1, 2026. Additional live performances by local musicians and noise artists will take place on Friday, June 20, activating the exhibition through sound-based interventions and experimental performance. "The Color of Silence" explores the complex interplay between silence, noise, emptiness, and saturation. Through monochromatic and dark visual languages alongside more strident sonic elements, the exhibition examines how silence can be perceived visually through subtle relationships between color and tone, space and non-space, absence and presence, and movement and stillness. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with Eme on this exhibition,” said Jennifer de Poyen, Space 4 Art’s executive director. “In addition to being a force for community-based art practices in the San Diego-Tijuana region, Eme is an amazing multidisciplinary artist and curator who brings fresh perspectives to all of his work.” Drawing from ideas rooted in sound composition and experimental music, the exhibition considers silence not simply as the absence of sound, but as a structural and emotional condition that gives meaning to sound itself. Without silence, sound would exist continuously, without pause, rhythm, or distinction. The participating artists investigate this tension through immersive and interdisciplinary works that engage visual art, installation, sound, and performance. As a physical phenomenon, complete silence can only exist within the vacuum of space, yet silence as a conceptual experience carries emotional and psychological weight. Throughout the exhibition, silence becomes associated with peace, grief, contemplation, isolation, and death, while noise emerges as interruption, confrontation, and vitality. Together, the works invite viewers to consider how perception is shaped through contrast, stillness, and sensory tension. The exhibit includes artists: Cheryl Nickel, Jenifer de Poyen, Jenna Leathers, Nick Lesley, Caity Fares, Andrew Alcasid, Joe Cantrell, Amy Cimini and Rabbitlight. Produced by Space 4 Art and presented at Art Produce Gallery, the exhibition is part of ongoing efforts to support artists and activate cultural dialogue across the region through the Prebys Foundation’s Arts Ecosystem Grant.
