  • Put down your phone, and kick up your heels! Contra dance is a living American tradition, easy and very social (you'll dance with different partners, and with everyone up and down the line). Come at 7 p.m. for a lesson in the basics. The caller teaches and guides each dance. If you can walk, you can dance! Come alone or bring a friend, wear what you like (with comfortable shoes), and dance whichever role you like, gender-neutral. We'll have different callers each date, with different local musicians, including nationally-known fiddler Audrey Jaber. Please see https://sdfolkheritage.org/contradance for more information.

  • Do you love jazz-pop artist Laufey? Did you know that she leads a book club? Well, now you can be a part of the Lauver book club community! Each session, be prepared to come ready to discuss one of Laufey’s picks––typically fiction with a whimsical bent. We’ll identify craft elements we love and discuss implementing those components in our own practices. This group will discuss one book per session, and will meet once every two months. Our first book will be "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahirim, which we will discuss on August 5. The book is available at this link on Amazon, but we appreciate if you obtain it through your local book store or borrow it from your local library. Please note that you will receive your Zoom link via email 24 hours before the start of this class. If you enroll in this class less than 24 hours before it begins, please either send us a message or email us at programs@sandiegowriters.org to request your link.
