  • In person & online: The second Evensong service in the 2025-26 music series will be Saturday, March 7 with guest organist, Emma Whitten. In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Evensong service will feature all music written by female composers, including the world premiere of Joanna Forbes "L'Estrange's Nunc Dimittis" (Song of Simeon) from the San Diego Service! The program starts with an extended organ prelude at 6 p.m. and the Evensong begins at 6:15 p.m. First Church’s Chamber Choir will lead this beautiful service, led by Brian Woods-Lustig, Conductor. It will be immediately followed by a choral concert of both sacred and secular music by the Minnetonka High School Choir from Minnesota.   • The North Coast Symphony Orchestra presents "Romantic Reflections" on Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m. at the San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas. The program includes Howard Hanson’s "Romantic Symphony," a beautiful and seldom-heard symphony by an American composer. The concert also features soprano Tasha Koontz performing pieces by Samuel Barber and Jordan Kuspa. Rounding out the program is Brahms’ "Tragic Overture. " North Coast Symphony Orchestra on Facebook
  • Developed in collaboration with the Center for Women’s History at the San Diego History Center, this special tour highlights the historical and contemporary women whose vision, leadership, and creativity helped shape Balboa Park into the vibrant cultural destination it is today. Among the impactful women featured include philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps, the “mother of Balboa Park” Kate Sessions, and sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle. The tour meets at the Bea Evenson Fountain, between the Natural History Museum and Fleet Science Center, every third Saturday of the month at 10 a.m., with additional tours scheduled for Women's History Month (Sunday, March 8; Saturday, March 14, in Spanish; Saturday, March 28; all at 10 a.m.).   • A hidden gem on Balboa Park’s West Mesa, the Trees for Health Garden features dozens of trees, shrubs, and groundcover plants that are prized for their medicinal value by various cultures around the world. This guided tour of the garden highlights the five flavors central to Chinese medicine. You will explore different plants in this unique garden and learn about their corresponding flavor and where they can be found in everyday life. Optional tasting samples will be available at each stop. By the end of the tour, you’ll have a better understanding of each of the five flavors and how to incorporate them into your daily routine. Please note that all are welcome on this tour, and those with food sensitivities are encouraged to avoid any samples that may cause them harm.
