Kings Return made a triumphant SummerFest debut in 2021, bringing audiences to their feet with their a cappella stylings inspired by gospel, jazz, R&B, soul, and classical music. The group became internet sensations in 2016 when they started posting videos to social media from the stairwell where they rehearsed and now have more than 10 million views across digital platforms. Kings Return is a vocal band of brothers —Gabe Kunda, Vaughn Faison, J.E. McKissic, and Jamall Williams. The Dallas, Texas-based a cappella group was formed unintentionally in 2016 after first singing together for Gabe’s college graduation recital. Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Warner Brothers Classic Films with Beth Accomando Thursdays, Aug. 10, 17, 24 & 31, 2023 In August, film critic and scholar Beth Accomando will return to host Flicks on the Bricks. This year we’re celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Warner Brothers studio, and Beth has a stellar lineup of films to showcase the studio’s long history of American filmmaking. The Athenaeum's outdoor movie series, Flicks on the Bricks makes it possible for you to enjoy classic movies that you love while enjoying the beautiful summer night on the patio of the Athenaeum. Media Arts Center San Diego (MACSD) In partnership with University of California San Diego (UCSD) will offer Free workshops for Beat Making, composing, and podcast classes at the City Heights Idea Lab starting in July. Sessions Session 1: July 11 to August 3 Session 2: August 8 to August 31 Session 3: September 5 to September 28 The Beat Making class will have a stipend of $300 per session and film composing will have a stipend of $150. That means that students are paid to participate as long as they meet minimum attendance requirements.
