Choose from three fun sessions where campers will explore techniques, learn about color, create art inspired by pieces from the museum’s collection, and meet new friends. Session 1: Color Adventure and Paint, ages 5-6 July 10 – July 14, 8:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. Color your world this summer at MCASD! Create and paint colorful masterpieces in a variety of art forms. Go on artistic adventures and make new friends while playing and painting your way through camp. Session 2: All about Animal Art, ages 7-9 July 17 – July 21, 8:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. Have a roaring summer full of art and animals! Create artistic animal sculptures, prints, and paintings. Session 3: Games and Street Art, ages 7-9 July 31 – Aug 4, 8:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. Art is play! Come on an adventure through contemporary art— explore abstract art techniques while making board games. Design your very own characters and bring them to life with stickers and trading cards.   • Join us every first Thursday of the month from Memorial Day to Labor Day for a monthly film screening curated by Standard Fantastic Pictures’ (SFP) Omar Lopex. The screening will include a feature film inspired by our special exhibition "Celia Álvarez Muñoz: Breaking the Binding" and local SFP shorts. Like Álvarez Muñoz, Standard Fantastic Pictures examines the nature of the border and embraces an ‘artivistst’ (art + activist) perspective in art-making. Based out of Conrad Prebys Learning Center and sprawling into the galleries, we invite you to explore the work of San Diego based artist Amy Adler (American, born 1966). Inspired by Adler’s piece, "Location (Playground no. 5)" (2014), come create a map of your favorite play space complete with your very own beaded figure.
