Bach's St. Matthew Passion was written for the Good Friday Vespers service of 1727 at the St Thomas' Church, Leipzig, and brings together relevant themes of betrayal, judgement, death, and love as expressed through St. Matthew's Gospel and Bach's librettist Picander. Bach’s vivid musical account of Christ's passion combines a striking drama and devotion forming a pinnacle of the vocal works composed for the Leipzig churches.
  • The Division of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego is proud to present the "Improvisation in Rast-Panjgah" concert by Amir Hossein Pourjavadi on setar and Pejman Hadadi on tombak on May 26, 2022 at 7 p.m. at the Qualcomm Institute (Atkinson Hall/UC San Diego). This concert is presented in collaboration with the Persian Cultural Center of San Diego, and has been made possible by the Chehreazad Endowed Funds for the Arts at UC San Diego. The event is open and free for the public, UC San Diego faculty, students and staff, and members of the Persian Cultural Center.
