Refresh your wardrobe with personalized creativity! In this workshop, you will design and sew your own quilt blocks and attach them to a pre-loved item of your choosing (we recommend you bring a tote bag or jacket*). You’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind item you’ll be proud to use or wear. Intuitive quilting is the process of creating a quilt (or quilt block) using your intuition and sense of creativity. You’ll select fabric scraps in shapes and colors that you’re drawn to without too much planning. We’ll move through the process without limits, allowing for creativity to flow freely. This course is for beginners and seasoned quilters alike. If you’ve never used a sewing machine before, you’ll be guided on how to sew simple straight lines, gentle curves and how to appliqué. If you’ve sewn apparel or quilts using patterns before, you’ll be encouraged to put away the “rules” and sometimes rigid guidelines of traditional quilting to tap into a more freeform and intuitive way of quilting. No experience necessary. Ages 16+ welcome! *Please bring items made from woven material only (non-stretch). Sweatshirts and anything made from knit fabric are not suitable for use in this class. Create a unique Bandsaw Box! In this one-day workshop, students will create a bandsaw box with a pivoting lid. Students will leave this workshop with a bandsaw box of their own and the skills to begin creating their own designs. In this class we will cover shop safety and use of the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, drill press, as well as various hand tools. In addition, we will cover the mixed media process of flocking. Students will also learn sanding best practices and how to achieve a perfect finish. We welcome all makers, from beginners to advanced. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring your own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. About Woodworking for Women & Non-Binary The Woodworking for Women class series is designed to empower women & nonbinary individuals in a supportive and educational woodshop environment which is predominantly a male-dominated space. In this series, most workshops and classes are project-based. The series covers the properties of wood, machine safety, and techniques on various tools and machines. Most classes also introduce various machines, sanding, glue-up methods, and finish techniques for finishing your project. Choose from a variety of classes and projects to develop your skills. The 44th Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off Festival offers attendees eclectic fun in the sun for all ages. Tens of thousands of visitors will attend the event from 10 am to 8 pm on Saturday, June 22, 2024, for a tasty festival nosh, art, beachfront entertainment, shopping, and more. Entry to the Street Fair is always free! The Chili Competition featured tastings from amateur entrants competing for the titles of Hottest Chili, Judges' Award, and Grand Prize: People's Choice Award. Chili Cook-Off - 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - The Chili Cook-Off competition is held in the grassy area between Newport Avenue and the Pacific. Dr. Chan’s 13th Annual Great Halloween Candy Buy Back & Card Give Back Thursday, Nov. 4, 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Dr. Curtis Chan is smiling with great expectations for his 13th annual Great Halloween Candy Buy Back & Card Give Back. The Candy Buy Back helps local children unload the Halloween candy they don’t need for a good cause. The candy is donated to troops overseas and children are given $1 per pound (up to 5 lbs). In 2019, the drive was a SWEET success collecting 8,756 pounds of candy, 428 Beanie Babies and 4,591 cards and letters for the troops. We were able to deliver over 20,000 lbs of candy thanks to businesses and grocery stores that generously donated their leftover candy as well as working with 15 schools and churches in the area. The Buy Back will be held on Thursday, Nov. 4th between 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Dr. Chan’s dental office outdoor plaza located at 12835 Pointe Del Mar Way, Suite #3 in Del Mar. BONUS- Each child will receive a Dr. Chan Chocolate Bar with a chance to be 1 of 5 kids to win a Golden Ticket worth $100. - Join us for this OUTDOOR event. Masks required.
