DISCO RIOT is a local innovative dance company, focused on collaborative, movement-based art. Throughout the past two years of the pandemic, Disco Riot has created some beautiful dance films and projects, like the "Move American" series of short films about voting issues, or "A Year of Distance." I also recently watched the company add choreography to contemporary artist Ana de Alvear's hyperrealistic drawings at the San Diego Museum of Art. Disco Riot returns to SDMA for a new SDMA+ project, reflecting on Cauleen Smith's contemporary video work — which is itself a work inspired by an early 1600s masterpiece in the museum's collection, Juan Sánchez Cotán’s "Still Life with Quince, Cabbage, Melon, and Cucumber." Distinction Gallery is thrilled to announce the opening reception of "Modern Tintypes", a solo show by Escondido based photographer and long term ArtHatch studio artist, Will Gibson. Gibson produced 21 unique tintypes by hand including photographing the subject with various cameras - the full size of the image and developing images, often in his van/darkroom. The exhibition includes architecture, nature, skull still lives among other subject matters. Artworks range from 4 x 5 – 10 x 8 inches.
