Brilliant, bold, and not to be missed—Pointeworks returns to The Conrad this summer with "Nocturnes: Five Ballets," an evening of extraordinary dance and live music. Curated by Artistic Director Sophie Williams, Season Three brings together world-class artists from across the country in a dynamic program choreographed entirely by women. The performance features two world premieres: Jacquelyn Long’s new ballet, "Moving Forces," with an original score by award-winning composer Katie Jenkins, performed live by virtuosic pianist Joshua Mhoon and violinist Julia Choi, and a new creation by acclaimed choreographer Keerati Jinakunwiphat, a 2023 Princess Grace Award winner and the first Asian American woman commissioned to create for New York City Ballet. The heart of "Nocturnes" lies in three ballets that illuminate love in its many forms. Audiences will experience the Northern Hemisphere premiere of Andrea Schermoly’s Romeo and Juliet, a poetic reimagining of Shakespeare’s timeless romance; Dani Rowe’s Unsaid, staged by the legendary Sofiane Sylve and hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as “another dark heartbreaker” that earned a standing ovation; and the return of Reka Gyulai’s Transcendence, which enthralled audiences last season with its sweeping imagery and powerful exploration of love’s endurance. You’re going on a blind date… with a ballet. At this special Pointeworks event, guests will select between Ballet A or Ballet B—without knowing exactly what they’ll see. Each choice leads to a distinct rehearsal experience, revealing a different side of the creative process. You’ll spend 45 minutes inside the studio observing a live working rehearsal, then join both groups afterward for a relaxed reception with drinks, conversation, and the chance to meet the artists. Ladies of D&D San Diego invites you to LDDSD After Dark, a late-night Underdark-themed Dungeons & Dragons fundraiser supporting our Gen Con working trip. For one night only, the gates to the Underdark open. Descend into glowing caverns, strange fungi, silk-covered tunnels, and whatever waits deeper below. All tables will run a custom LDDSD Underdark adventure led by our lady Dungeon Masters, featuring eerie caves, strange creatures, dangerous bargains, and chaotic party decisions. Designed to welcome brand-new players while still offering enough mystery and danger to keep experienced adventurers engaged. No prep required. Pre-generated characters will be provided, so just show up ready to play. Tickets are $25 and include a free raffle entry. Join us for a special Art Break with Dawn Williams Boyd, a celebrated visual storyteller whose richly layered textile work, "Piscean Dancer," is featured in "Layered Narratives - Quilted Stories of Gender and Race at the 1876 Centennial." A working artist for over five decades as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, Boyd brings deep personal experience and fierce conviction to every piece she creates. In this talk, she’ll reflect on her creative journey, from discovering her calling in a high school biology lab to finding her voice through fabric, inspired in part by the legendary Faith Ringgold. About North County Youth Ballet North County Youth Ballet, run by North County Academy of Dance, is San Diego County's premier youth ballet company. Directed by Pablo & Cassandra Infante, NCYB provides dancers ages 10-20 the opportunity to perform in a challenging, fun, and innovative environment. This season, dancers have performed original works of choreography by some of California's leading choreographers, as well as 2 full-length Classical Ballets. In this production, "Choreolab", they are showcasing their own choreography set on their peers. NCAD opened in 2010 and has sent many of their dancers into the top ballet schools, companies, and colleges in the world.
