Third Sunday Craft is a monthly gathering of creative writers that fosters support, inspiration, and community. More than craft classes, Third Sunday Craft will help you construct and sustain a writing practice. New focus topics for each session will challenge writers to explore and expand their craft. Generative writing prompts will encourage you to grow and learn in exciting new ways. Sharing your work within a safe, supportive community will help you discover and strengthen your voice. Perseus Information The Constellation Perseus, named for a superhero of Greek mythology, has a lot going for it: many bright and easily spotted stars, a superlative meteor shower, and fascinating double star cluster. The Perseids meteor shower is a dazzling celestial event that graces our skies. Every August, when Earth passes through this debris trail, the particles enter our atmosphere and burn up upon entry, creating a spectacular meteor shower. These shooting stars appear to originate from the constellation Perseus, hence the name "Perseids." In Greek mythology, Perseus was a hero known for his daring exploits. This hero rescued captive Andromeda, daughter of Cassiopeia and Cepheus, from the predatory sea monster Cetus. As our planet Earth orbits the Sun, we cross the path of Comet Swift-Tuttle, a comet that journeys through our solar system. As the comet travels, it leaves behind a trail of debris, tiny particles and fragments of ice and rock. The Perseids meteor shower has been observed for thousands of years, with records dating back to ancient civilizations. People have marveled at the celestial display, often making wishes upon the shooting stars as they streak across the night sky. Today, the Perseids meteor shower continues to captivate stargazers around the world. It serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of Perseus, the hero of Greek mythology, and the awe-inspiring beauty of our universe.
