Enjoy Day 3 of San Diego Black Pride as we bring the return of the RICHS Day Party Take-Over. Featuring your favorite collaborations, G-Spot will bring it to you all day in the front from 3 p.m. - 9 p.m. while the Mx. Black Pride Competition hosted by phenomenal and legendary Amber St. James will bring it to you in the back along with local entertainment (and maybe a surprise guest or two). Prepare to meet Cali Renaissance, with a relaxed chill vibe, outside vendor tables, food trucks, free HIV testing (incentives for those who come earlier), games, hookah and fun. Admission to the RICHS Day Party will give you free access to RICHS until they close. And don’t forget, HIP HOP music will be on the mainstage all night. The FACE Foundation hosts inaugural San Diego Animal Hero Awards, Saturday, Aug. 19 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at BRICK at Liberty Station. Guests and supporters will enjoy an evening with live music, local cuisine by Toast, fine wines, pet portraits, photo booths, live and silent auctions, and opportunity drawings. The event will save local pets in need of life-saving emergency veterinary care, while celebrating our community’s animal heroes. The first local gala event of its kind, San Diego Animal Hero Awards will recognize and honor the contributions of animals and their advocates in seven categories. The community is also welcome to attend the event. Tickets are $275 and include a red-carpet entrance (cocktail attire recommended), three-course dinner with wine service, outdoor reception and bar in a beautiful, historic, and iconic San Diego location, and so much more.

Taking place on Saturday, August 12 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Downtown Chula Vista Association will completely transform Downtown Chula Vista’s Third Avenue into a lemon-filled oasis. In addition to the many citrus-themed bites and sips, attendees will be treated to two stages of live music, photo opps, a lemon cook-off competition, arts and crafts vendors, a wine and beer garden, and a kids zone for families. This year’s Lemon Festival will be filled with both new and returning activations for the whole community to enjoy. At each hour of the event, there will be a Lemon Squeeze off competition to find out who can squeeze the most lemon juice in a minute. There will also be a Lemon Costume Contest with categories for best dressed adult, child and dog. Along with the new competitions, the return of previous activations such as the Lemon Grove photo opportunity, Tartie the Lemon Character, the Lemon Cook Off and the Lemon Themed Chalk Art will also make a reappearance this year.

Together, we will explore how war impacts and informs artists’ practices by examining artwork in MCASD’s permanent collection that responds to US military conflicts. Tour is limited to 25 people.
