Located above the Flower Fields, ArtWalk Carlsbad is back for its 5th year, bringing fine art, live music, and interactive art experiences, offered free to attendees. The weekend-long festival focuses on fine art for sale by artists, who travel from all over the U.S. and Mexico to show and sell their work. In a venue overlooking the ocean, guests can explore different facets of art, while enjoying beautiful coastal views. The festival will display every medium of art, including painting, sculpture, glass work, fine jewelry, photography and more. More than 150 fine artists’ work will be featured, along with interactive art for families at KidsWalk, a full palette of musical performers, food trucks and stands, and more. The event will be fenced, even though admission is free. The fence allows attendees to enjoy beer and wine (to those 21-years and over), while strolling around the event, rather than having to remain in a Beer Garden. The weekend begins with an unforgettable live performance by La Pocha Nostra, featuring La Pocha Nostra’s Artistic Directors Balitrónica and Guillermo Gómez-Peña, with special guest Perry Vasquez. The Mex Files: A Divination Ritual is an immersive, live-action duet where spoken word and ritual performance collide. In a piece that defies conventional storytelling, Balitrónica manipulates tarot decks and a casino roulette, allowing fate to dictate the script and performance, creating a constantly evolving experience. This intimate and raw performance confronts both personal and collective crises, speaking to Gómez-Peña’s ongoing exploration of cultural reinvention, spiritual upheaval, and survival in the age of pandemics. The weekend continues with a screening of four of Gómez-Peña’s groundbreaking films on Sunday, October 20 at The Front Arte Cultura Gallery, offering a rare glimpse into the evolution of his cinematic work. "Their Wall, Our Canvas" exhibits nearly fifty multimedia pieces by San Diego artists-activists Antonia Davis (b.1955), Bob Davis (b.1952), and Natalia Ventura (b.1998). Antonia is a founding member of the San Diego Puppet Insurgency, and has led art builds with dozens of local social and environmental justice groups over the last twenty years. Bob has been a lifelong supporter and photo documentarian of local struggles. Natalia, an emerging artist-activist from Chula Vista, met the couple in 2023 while leading art intervention projects to save Friendship Park. Since then the three have formed a bond rooted in their shared passions for art and activism. Several of the works on view are products of their collaboration. Spanning across textile, installation, photography, performance, painting, and video, the works in this exhibition aim to deconstruct harmful narratives and replace them with stories and images that heal. These artists contribute to the Collective by helping us imagine a different reality, painting the picture of what liberation looks like, and making the revolution irresistible.
