Unmistakably Nordic in flavor, Sofia Talvik somehow still conforms to American interpretations of her own original music, a North Sea siren blending sparkle and melancholy. She is a veteran performer with seven full-length albums as well as numerous EPs, singles, and tours behind her. Growing up in Sweden, her music has always had a special tint of her Scandinavian heritage, making her a favorite among music lovers, but her extended United States touring, has moved her music closer to the Americana tradition. Her latest album, "Paws of a Bear", released in 2019, gained a lot of critical acclaim in both the United States and Europe, charting on the top lists of the United States Folk Radio, Roots Music Report, and Euro Americana Charts. Saturday, October 7 from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Basketry is an ancient art, practiced by many peoples and cultures. Traditional basket makers used readily available materials, such as sweet grass, pine needles, willow, and thin strips of ash or oak. Marsha teaches Appalachian-style basketry which is a functional form of basketry used for everyday activities. Thus, the basket names often reflect their functions, such as Market Basket, Egg Basket, Herb Drying Basket, and others. In this workshop you’ll learn to basketweave an adorable door basket to welcome your family and friends. It’s perfect for beginners because it uses mostly the traditional over-under basketry weave, but you can personalize this project with your choice of dyed reed accents and choice of the gingham ribbon color. The wooden “Welcome” disc is included. The Door Basket measures 10” across and 14” tall. It’s only about 1” in width to fit nicely on your door, but could also be used as a wall basket. Change out the flowers (not included) as the seasons change. The striking Japanese knot adds a final flourish to the handle. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. Jill Linder serves as the internal and external point person for TV programming working together with independent producers, national program distributors, vendors and public television colleagues to enact the KPBS TV programming schedule and ensure that the programs airing on KPBS meet the station's standards and mission to the community. In addition, she works collaboratively to develop and execute promotion strategies for key TV programs across all media platforms to reach the widest audience possible. Jill has been with KPBS since 2003. Prior to joining the station, Jill worked at local commercial TV stations including KUSI and KSWB (Now Fox5 San Diego). She earned her bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies from National University.
