A chilly autumn storm brought widespread rainfall and a chance of light, short-lived mountain snow to the San Diego area Tuesday.

The city of San Diego is gearing up for this week's rainstorm by taking a series of protective measures, while also urging residents to take action to safeguard their homes, especially those in flood- prone areas.

More than 480,000 voters in San Diego County had already returned their mail ballots as of 9 a.m. Sunday.

A Pacific storm is set to descend on San Diego County and throughout Southern California Monday.

In addition to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the county is seeing an early spike of flu and respiratory syncytial virus cases.

In the mountains, it is expected to be cold, windy and rainy.

Mayor Todd Gloria and City Council President Sean Elo-Rivera Wednesday announced an update to San Diego's climate action initiative.

The announcement comes after a judge struck down San Diego's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, saying only the state can make that a requirement.

Earlier this month, supervisors unanimously voted to oppose any further placements of sexually violent predators until local jurisdictions are able to fully participate in the placement process, including having full veto authority.
