A nonprofit free speech organization said Tuesday that it has asked the California Supreme Court to take up the case brought by a coalition of San Diego-area news organizations seeking county data regarding COVID-19 outbreaks in the community.

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved transferring $4 million in federal funds to independent fire protection districts to help them combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday, authorities said they were evaluating the possibility of re-populating the Cold Springs area, but fire crews were still working on narrow, one-way roads, and they were still urging people to avoid the area.

San Diego County public health officials reported 1,025 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths Monday. Fully vaccinated county residents now number close to 2.09 million, or around 74.4% of the county's eligible population.

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to decide Tuesday whether to declare COVID-19 misinformation a public health crisis and adopt a series of recommendations to actively combat it.

San Diego Unified is investing nearly $3 billion in academic and social-emotional and well-being programs for students as well as upgrades to classrooms this school year, a 14% increase per student from a year ago.

The announcement comes after a judge struck down San Diego's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, saying only the state can make that a requirement.

Earlier this month, supervisors unanimously voted to oppose any further placements of sexually violent predators until local jurisdictions are able to fully participate in the placement process, including having full veto authority.
