San Diego County health officials reported 2,867 new COVID-19 infections Friday, a new record, eclipsing the previous one of 2,287 last Friday by nearly 800 cases, marking more than 100,000 total cases in the county since the pandemic began.

The disagreement stems from a waiver Palomar Health received from the California Department of Public Health on Wednesday which allows the Poway campus to assign one intensive care nurse to care for up to three patients, depending on patient acuity.

Rescue efforts are being assisted by the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy aircraft, USS Bunker Hill, USS Russell, USS Howard and USS Charleston, the Navy said.

A fire erupted Friday morning at a Mountain View home and sent one firefighter to a hospital with minor injuries.
