Forecasters are expecting cooler weather across San Diego County this week, with a steady stream of high clouds continuing through much of Saturday.

While the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend people stay at home this holiday season to avoid spreading COVID-19, officials at San Diego International Airport released some tips for those who are traveling as this traditional major travel weekend begins.

A judge is expected to issue a written ruling Monday on a request from four San Diego County businesses seeking to resume indoor operations following the county's recent slide into the restrictive purple tier of the state's coronavirus reopening plan.

Friday was the 10th consecutive day more than 600 new coronavirus cases were reported by the county, and the most reported in a single day. On Sunday, 1,087 cases were recorded.

Researchers at UC San Diego School of Medicine, in collaboration with Rady Children's Institute for Genomic Medicine, were awarded a five-year, $8.3 million grant Thursday from the National Institutes of Health to study spina bifida.

According to the EDD, total non-farm employment in San Diego County increased by 21,500 jobs month-over-month — from 1,386,600 to 1,408,100 — while farm employment contracted from 9,600 to 9,500.

Mayor Todd Gloria and City Council President Sean Elo-Rivera Wednesday announced an update to San Diego's climate action initiative.

The announcement comes after a judge struck down San Diego's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, saying only the state can make that a requirement.

Earlier this month, supervisors unanimously voted to oppose any further placements of sexually violent predators until local jurisdictions are able to fully participate in the placement process, including having full veto authority.
