NATO today announced the death of an International Security Assistance Force service member in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday. According to NATO ISAF, the troop died "as a result of an enemy forces attack." The service member's nationality has not yet been released.

Marine Corps veteran Cpl. Kyle Carpenter, who was awarded the Medal of Honor last week, is in town. Among his stops - throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at Sunday's San Diego Padres game, and meeting with fellow Marines at Camp Pendleton and MCAS Miramar.

The Defense Department has identified the three U.S. Marines killed on June 20 (along with a military working dog) by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan. They were: Staff Sgt. David H. Stewart, 34; Lance Cpl. Brandon J. Garabrant, 19; and Lance Cpl. Adam F. Wolff, 25. All three were based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Active-duty soldier Pfc. Paul Ieti, 21, recently completed a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. While in the war-ravaged country, he used music to soothe his soul and entertain his fellow soldiers. His incredible singing voice landed him an audition on "America's Got Talent," and his performance on the show this week earned him a standing ovation and a spot in the final competition.

President Barack Obama will award retired Marine Corps Cpl. William "Kyle" Carpenter the Medal of Honor at a White House ceremony today, for Carpenter's heroic actions during a Nov. 21, 2010 battle in Afghanistan. Home Post will carry a live feed of the event.

The widow of Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Steven Stevens was presented with his Bronze Star on Monday at a Camp Pendleton ceremony. Monique Stevens was holding the couple's 2-year-old son Kairo - whom Stevens never got a chance to meet before he was killed in Afghanistan.

Gunnery Sgt. Jonathan Gifford, a member of the Marine Special Operations Command, will be posthumously awarded the Navy Cross on June 17. The Navy Cross is the second highest military decoration that can be awarded to member of the Marine Corps or Navy.

Army Spc. Terry J. Hurne, 34, was one of five U.S. troops killed in a friendly-fire incident in Afghanistan, his father confirmed to The Associated Press.
