California Governor Jerry Brown ordered flags over the State Capitol be flown at half-staff today in honor of Army Staff Sgt. Kenneth W. Bennett. The 26-year-old from Glendora was killed by an improvised explosive device on November 10 in Afghanistan.
Brown released a statement that read, in part:
On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Staff Sgt. Kenneth W. Bennett, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
Brown will also send a letter of condolence to Bennett's family.
As Home Post reported earlier this week, Bennett was a explosives ordinance technician, trained to disable explosives, assigned to the 53rd Ordnance Company (EOD), 3rd Ordnance Battalion (EOD) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
Bennett was on his third deployment to Afghanistan when he was killed, according to the Bellingham Herald.
