Army Sgt. David J. Chambers, 25, was killed in Afghanistan on January 16.
The Department of Defense reports Chambers died of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device blast while he was on dismounted patrol in Panjwai District, Kandahar Province.
Chambers was from Hampton, Virginia. He was based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state, where he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, under control of the 7th Infantry Division.
