Ideally, we wouldn’t need lectures about women artists, or artists of color, or artists from different cultures and sexual orientations. Ideally, they would be just artists of excellence. But until this ideal is reached, there is value in focusing on select female artists of the Impressionist, German Expressionist, and Abstract Expressionist movements, as well as African American and indigenous artists from the Americas and Aboriginal Australia, who were often overshadowed by their male or white counterparts. This class is presented by Cornelia Feye. Feye’s previous lecture series on female artists included Latin American and Asian artists; in this series we are focusing on European, American, African American and indigenous women. The Female Artists Lecture by Cornelia Feye will take place on Tuesdays, October 19, 26, November 2, 9, and 16, 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Full schedule: October 19: Women Artists of Impressionism in Paris October 26: German Expressionist Women Artists November 2: Abstract Expressionist Women Artists in New York November 9: African American Female Artists November 16: Indigenous Female Artists Location | Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, La Jolla Register here!
