Join the San Diego State community for the 5th Annual Aztecs for Life Blood Drive! The blood drive will be held 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Viejas Arena.

SDSU is teaming up with the American Red Cross, which is facing an emergency blood shortage. The American Red Cross urgently needs blood donors to give now to avoid delays in lifesaving medical care for patients. To make an appointment to donate, visit the American Red Cross Blood Drive website and use the code: Aztecs.

Each Red Cross blood drive and donation center follows the highest standards of safety and infection control. Additional precautions – including face masks for donors and staff, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status – have been implemented to help protect the health of all those in attendance. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment prior to arriving at Viejas Arena.

As a thank-you, all blood donors will receive a free T-shirt, a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card by email, a Raising Cane’s free meal gift card, AND coupons from Woodstock's Pizza and Eureka!, along with other giveaways while supplies last.

If you are coming from campus, please enter via Gate 3 along Aztec Walk at the top level of Viejas Arena.

We hope to see you on Nov. 16 from 10am-7pm, and sign up today!

Viejas Arena, formerly Cox arena, at Aztec Bowl. Ground was broken for the Viejas Arena on March 27, 1995 in the historic San Diego State University Aztec Bowl site. The Aztec Bowl, which opened on October 3, 1936, served as the site for university sporting and cultural events through August of 1994. Of note, on June 6, 1963, President John F. Kennedy presented the commencement address and received his honorary doctorate in front of 30,000 people in and around Aztec Bowl. In February and March of 1988, the Associated Students’ of SDSU approved the Student Activity Center referendum. This referendum allowed for a mandatory student fee increase which provided funding to build what would be called the Cox Arena and Aztec Recreation Center. In November of 1994, Aztec Bowl received designation as a historic site and was chosen as the site for the Viejas Arena. Due to the bowl’s historic designation, bleacher sections of the bowl were preserved and can still be seen today. Viejas Arena (formerly Cox Arena) opened its doors to the campus and community in July of 1997. Viejas Arena continues to provide quality entertainment with impeccable acoustics and sight lines.
