Did you know that San Diego was once the tuna capital of the world? The Shelter Island neighborhood of San Diego was called Tunaville and it was home to many Portuguese immigrants who helped the neighborhood thrive.
Learn about Portuguese culture, their influence in San Diego, and the history of our old tuna industry! A variety of topics will be explored with Portuguese Historical Center Board Secretary Evelyn Barandiaran.
From the Folklore dance group established in 1948 to the annual Festival of The Holy Spirit celebrated by the San Diego Portuguese community on Pentecost Sunday celebrating 111 years in San Diego.
Date: Wednesday, February 16 at 7 p.m.
Location: Zoom.
Cost: $5 general, free for GQHF members.
