Hybrid Discussion/Writing Session: Normal People with Nicole Le

This is 1 of 2 Literary Salon meetings on Sally Rooney’s Normal People being held in March. For best results, participants should acquire a copy of the text and read the book in its entirety before our meeting, but even those who haven’t had a chance to read the book can benefit from our in-meeting discussion of specific passages from the book.

In March, we’ll look at Normal People by Sally Rooney, who’s been hailed as the “first great millennial novelist.” What exactly does that look like on the page? What does it mean for Rooney to be called a “psychological portraitist?” What makes her a “master of the literary page-turner?” We’ll have the chance to talk about what stood out to us, what we stumbled over, what seemed to work, and what made us cringe, but we’ll also investigate craft elements such as language, theme, and character through a contemporary lens.
