Homegrown Anti-Prom

Homegrown Anti-Prom is the queer, experimental, and multi-generational prom that was never possible in school– here just in time for pride month.

Doubling as an experimental electronic concert, the event features live performances by Tijuana-based electronic artist Surcarilita, and experimental producer Colloboh (Collins Oboh), alongside DJ sets by Maalbea, Onu Blu, and Victor Castañeda H. Visuals provided by VJ blunt diop (filmmaker and video artist kelechi agwuncha) and film installation by 2022 Sundance fellow Fox Maxy.

The theme is “under the sea, into the sky”– prom-goers are encouraged to wear their weirdest and campiest interpretations of retrofuturist aliens, pirates, voyagers and planet jumpers.

The event is a fundraiser for Homegrown Youth Collaborative, a cross-border and intergenerational collective growing an alternative space to learn, create, and imagine outside of the traditional education system in the San Diego and Tijuana borderlands.
