This lecture illuminates the history behind the stories of tortured Christians seen on one of the treasures of the Timken, a small double-sided 15th century icon. One painting depicts forty Roman soldiers being martyred for their Christian beliefs in the fourth century as they were forced to stand barefoot in a freezing lake. The icon's reverse depicts the famous Old Testament story of Four Men in the Fiery Furnace from the book of Daniel. Join us in this virtual experience for some interesting historical sleuthing!
