From the La Jolla Music Society:
This festival we delight in the unknown, the surprising and the unexpected. In that spirit, music director Inon Barnatan has created a concert program for opening night that will not be disclosed in advance and which, like an Omakase meal at a sushi restaurant, invites you to trust the chef to create an unforgettable experience. Superstar conductor Alan Gilbert, principal conductor of Hamburg’s Elbephilharmonie and former music director of the New York Philharmonic, leads an all-star cast of musicians in an unmissable program of chamber and orchestral works, including a virtuosic showstopper, a lush symphony, and an iconic piano concerto.

The Baker-Baum Concert Hall is an intimate performance space with superb acoustics ideally suited for chamber music and classical recitals. In addition, its design incorporates state-of-the-art technology and adjustable acoustics, making it a world class space for amplified concerts, film, dance, theatre, lectures, and more. A wooden grillage frames the elegant curvature to the seating area creating a shape reminiscent of a European opera house. Outside this framework, lighting washes the walls in color to create a sense of space beyond.
