What does it mean to experience adolescence as an adult when decades of life experience are in constant tension with the “lessons” being taught to fashion an independent, individual self? This experience is all too familiar for adults who transition sex and gender in today’s world. UCSD doctoral scholar Nicoletta Vangelisti explores Star Trek’s Seven of Nine’s journey of transition after her separation from the evil Borg to find her place within Starfleet and Federation society.
