The San Diego Early Music Society welcomes another return with mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre and her frequent collaborator, lutenist Thomas Dunford, following their phenomenal first performance in San Diego in 2022 with Jupiter Ensemble. The duo will present an intimate program of works dedicated to love by Italian composers of the seventeenth century. Featuring arias by Monteverdi, Merula, Kapsberger, and Frescobaldi, the program explores the richness and complexity of romantic ardor. Lea Desandre is “one of today’s most exciting voices in early-music performance” (The New York Times) while lutenist Thomas Dunford has been hailed as the “Eric Clapton of the lute” (BBC Magazine).
