Bernard J. Baars, PhD is a former Senior Fellow in Theoretical Neurobiology at the Neurosciences Institute in San Diego. He is best known as the originator of the global workspace theory, a concept of human cognitive architecture and consciousness. Dr. Baars will focus on the empirical evidence for the existence of this state and suggest a principled method to study the psychophysics of silent consciousness. As Wilder Penfield wrote, “cortex is the organ of mind.”
