Scripps Institution of Oceanography
Scripps Institution of Oceanography is one of the oldest, largest, and most important centers for ocean and earth science research, education, and public service in the world. Research at Scripps Institution of Oceanography encompasses physical, chemical, biological, geological, and geophysical studies of the oceans and earth. With more than a century of exploration and discovery in global sciences, Scripps Institution of Oceanography is the world's preeminent center for ocean and earth research, teaching, and public education. A graduate school of UC San Diego, Scripps's leadership in many scientific fields reflects its continuing commitment to excellence in research, modern facilities and ships, distinguished faculty, and outstanding students - and the horizons continue to expand. Driving Directions: From San Diego Take Interstate 5 north to La Jolla Parkway (formerly Ardath Road). Go west on La Jolla Parkway and down the hill (approx 1.5 miles) to La Jolla Shores Drive. Turn right on La Jolla Shores Dr. and go 1 mile to El Paseo Grande. Turn left on El Paseo Grande then right on Kennel Dr. From Los Angeles Take Interstate 5 south to Genessee Ave. Go west on Genessee Ave. approx 0.5 miles to North Torrey Pines Road. Turn left (south) on N. Torrey Pines Rd. and go 1 mile to La Jolla Shores Drive. Turn right (west) on La Jolla Shores Dr. and go down the hill about 1 mile to Scripps. Turn right on El Paseo Grande and then right on Kennel Dr. Parking Information:At the south end of campus, visitors can park at metered spaces in one of the two lots on either side of Kennel Dr. after 5 p.m. on weekdays, and all day on holidays and weekends. No metered parking is available during normal weekday working hours; visitors must park on the street. UCSD permits with Scripps stamps are required seven days a week, 24 hours a day in spaces south of T-29. UCSD permits are valid north of T-29 and in the parking lots on the east side of La Jolla Shores Drive.
