“MIDNIGHT SPECIAL” (2016. 112 min. PG-13) - Jeff Nichols fires the imagination in this shape-shifting, genre-defying sci-fi road movie. A father (Michael Shannon), his mysterious friend (Joel Edgerton), and his son (Jaeden Lieberher), with supernatural abilities, go on the run to uncover the truth behind the special gifts, all the while pursued by shady government forces. Co-starring Adam Driver, Kirsten Dunst and Sam Shepard.

In the sci-fi thriller “Midnight Special,” writer/director Jeff Nichols proves again that he is one of the most compelling storytellers of our time, as a father (Michael Shannon), goes on the run to protect his young son, Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), and uncover the truth behind the boy's special powers. What starts as a race from religious extremists and local law enforcement quickly escalates to a nationwide manhunt involving the highest levels of the Federal Government.

FILM FORUM CORONADO is held in the Winn Room at Coronado Public Library, on the first and third Wednesdays, with a brief introduction before the film and a discussion afterward, led by Ralph DeLauro.

FILM FORUM CORONADO is presented by Coronado Public Library, the Friends of the Coronado Library and Coronado Island Film Festival.
