Join San Diego Botanic Garden in unity with friends and colleagues from around the globe for the Garden’s annual Survivor Tree Ceremony on Wednesday, August 6 at 11 a.m. Descended from a mother tree that survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan 80 years ago, this special ginkgo tree was planted at San Diego Botanic Garden in 2023. The ceremony will feature opening remarks from Ari Novy, SDBG President and CEO, and a moment of silence at 11:15 a.m., the exact time the bomb was dropped. Attendees will also be invited to participate in a community wish-writing activity.

This significant tree is a part of a years-long partnership with Green Legacy Hiroshima, a global initiative that distributes seeds and saplings from Hiroshima’s survivor trees to promote peace, remembrance, and resilience around the world.
