Friday, April 10 | Viewing Starts at 4 p.m. and Activities start at 4:30 p.m. Activities end at 7 p.m., but viewing will continue if Splashdown is later.
This event is included with admission. Come earlier in the day and save your receipt to join the PJ Party! Explorer Pass Holders and Museum Members are free.
Those arriving at 4pm or later can get half price admission for the event!
Get ready for an unforgettable day of discovery, excitement, and real-time space history at the San Diego Air & Space Museum’s Artemis II Splashdown Family PJ Night Watch Party!
Timed with the anticipated return of NASA’s Artemis II mission, this immersive event invites families to witness the dramatic splashdown of the Orion capsule—expected just off the coast of San Diego—and celebrate humanity’s next step toward the Moon.
Experience Spaceflight in Real Time
Guests will gather in the Museum’s Pavilion of Flight at least one hour prior to splashdown to watch the live broadcast of Orion’s return to Earth on a massive LED screen. Follow along as the capsule re-enters the atmosphere, deploys parachutes, and splashes down—marking a historic milestone in human space exploration.
Hands-On Activities for All Ages
Starting at 4:30 p.m., guests can explore a variety of education-led activity stations, including:
- Chocolate heat shield experiments
- Parachute and safe-landing challenges
- Stomp rocket launches
- Robotics and engineering builds
- 3D pen design creations
- Blackout poetry inspired by space communications

The Flight Path Grill will be open until 6:30 p.m. offering a full menu of family-friendly food, snacks, and beverages to enjoy while watching the live stream.
