Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego is excited to announce "The Axolotl’s Garden/El Jardín del Ajolote," an expansion of the popular "Imagine Wild" exhibition, will open this fall.
"The Axolotl’s Garden" invites guests to discover the world of the endangered Axolotl, from the mythology and folklore that surrounds them, to the challenges they face in a changing world. Beyond Axolotls, the new exhibition will also showcase other unique Mexican species, inviting guests to explore each animal’s tale of survival and adaptation.
"The Axolotl’s Garden," created in collaboration with acclaimed Mexican-American artist Itzel Islas, is more than an exhibition — it will transform Birch Aquarium into a living story-world inspired by the ecological and cultural richness of Mexico and Baja California. Guests will explore themes of biodiversity, climate resilience, habitat loss, migration, transformation and care through unforgettable encounters with animals, contemporary art and conservation science.
